rap da '08

it's a blog post, baby. i wasn't the best rapper in 2008, much clamor as i drummed up last year with my statements to the contrary. truly sorry, djs! hope you're not still smarting. if nas knew "smarting" was a verb i'm sure we'd hear a salaam remi concept song with a lupe fiasco feature. "my diamonds a fiasco, dezzy made lou pay" would be a line in the song. lupe's verse would reference or adopt a line from i gave you power and subsequently unveil a dimmed, avant-harde remodel (think mase or loon with a brain and a double-time doomswitch, deathmode dubois) that'd surrender credibility right along with the extracurricular income from his aromatherapy endorsements.
royce da 5'9" takes the kiddie as the best rapper in 2008. long heralded as alpha lyricist for his herculean giving of guff, royce finally proved his worth as more than an itunes organizational saboteur, shirking the constraints of the members-only mathers mold. i like it; i really do. d supreme previously had this to say with regard to choice royce

"royce is great, but that guy will never change. he's been on that same mt. rainier about to rupture buildup bullshit since i was throwing building blocks at cootie-ridden bitches during free time. it's like his whole career is based upon that thing he does with his cadence where he sounds really tense like he's trying to contain this great mass of energy on the tip of his tongue from exploding into the verse that defines hip hop forever. i realize how mudede that sounds, but don't you think royce is as much loved for what you feel like he could've said as for what he DID say?"

i guess i felt as if he was the control group in whatever insane experiment infused em with such plentiful personality. the man changed my opinion this year. still at the pinnacle of the pen game, he revealed an alcohol problem and a soul. more personality escapes the cranial confines and translates into cd code than ever before. i like it; i really do.

we eat so many shrimp, bar exam 2, releases surrounding that project, slaughterhouse and the above singles inspiyrt this crack.
